X marks the spot

Observatory site pano smThis is where the Observatory is going to be placed. Right next to the Science Centre (a structure that Dr No would have been proud to use at his HQ) and overlooking the western end of the South Downs. Over beyond the cross you are looking towards Cheesefoot Head. I spent the day there yesterday, checking out the exhibits and having my first look at the planetarium. I recorded my reactions on Twitter, which you can find at @artnucleus. It was all quite overwhelming, confusing and will take some time to digest. A bit of a honey trap for me, an artist who works with science already. The planetarium is quite special. I think the last time I went in one was on one of my trips to London to visit my grandmother when I was about 10, and she took me to the London Planetarium on the Marylebone Road. No video projectors in those days but a optical-mechanical star projector. Ah yes…maybe there is a Cheesefoot Head on the Moon. So, back to Winchester. Thanks Damian for showing me around.
