Into the ‘in silico’

Observatory minecraftWell, there is a first for everything, and today it is entering the world of Minecraft. I am researching possible ways of working for the Observatory project at the Winchester Science Centre. The two tools that are, in their own ways, indigenous to the site are chalk (as in drawing with white chalk on a blackboard) and an in silico sculpting tool such as Minecraft. Here is my first attempt: yes, ok, nothing special, but it is exciting to find out what might be possible. I am not interested in it for its gaming possibilities, more for what I can sculpt with it. What also interests me is that, unlike many other gaming worlds where the world has been created by others, in Minecraft it can be up to you. So, back to work…. The holes in the ground are not meant to be there. I haven’t discovered where to get more grass from yet!
